Friday Update: Shelter Dogs Coming into Chester - 3:00PM

We're expecting two of three transports to make it in on time, 3:00PM - the storm this afternoon could be a factor so I will post here when they cross into CT - that will be about 1.5 hours before they arrive - if we can navigate the Q bridge issues! Any help at the Fairgrounds appreciated getting the fist 50 off, walked, watered and fed.

A Warm Welcome to Dr. Scruggs from Deep River

Please welcome our Chester event veterinarian, Dr. Christine Scruggs of the Deep River Animal Hospital - we're so fortunate to have veterinarians who believe in helping not only shelter dogs but their new adopters. Dr. Scruggs and her staff will be on hand throughout the weekend to answer any questions. She will also examine all out of state dogs before they come into the event and that is greatly appreciated by our rescue partners and adopters. Dr. Scruggs's practice includes small animal general medicine, canine and feline reproduction and genetics, avian and exotic medicine, soft tissue surgery, small animal dentistry, and dog grooming.  Located in Middlesex County, southeastern Connecticut, they are easily accessible from Route 9 and Route 95.

Welcome Deep River Animal Hospital!

GREAT Training Day – Best Event Ever Coming Up!

What a great turn-out we had at the all day training event on June 3. Despite a BEAUTIFUL Sunday over 50 people showed up to hear about managing dogs at adoption events - and that was a sacrifice. It's this kind of dedication to not only help shelter dogs in need but take the time to learn the rules and guidelines required to safely get them into loving homes which distinguishes Dog Days from other organizations. I think we'll make the Chester event the MOST organized and well managed event thanks to the dedication and energy of the greatest volunteers in the world - YOU!

One Big Training Day

We've heard some great suggestions for how to make our events better for volunteers, adopters and dogs and all of them begin with this: more training and better communication. So we've scheduled a full training day for Dog Days board of directors, team leaders, coordinators and Rangers and any general volunteers as well as any people from other rescues who are interested in learning about shelter dog management in a public setting. I wish we could fund this training but we can't so participants must pay $32 for the day but it includes lunch and beverages/snacks - sorry about that, we're trying to find some funding help! Sign up form and payment online here:

Thank you so much for helping us become a better organization through better planning and training!
